\nCarpentry is one of the oldest craft and has been in vogue from times immemorial. A good carpenter can always find gainful employment even in villages with poor purchasing power of the people. <\/p>\n

The module is designed to train technicians for carpentry shop. The main purpose is to provide the basic working knowledge of the production of properties of different materials in the trade. Module will apprise the students of basics and applications of various tools, equipment, machinery and techniques used in manufacturing to facilitate shaping of raw materials into useful products or components.<\/p>\n

Objectives<\/h4>\n

After going through this course the student will be able to:<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Identify and select the right type of wood for various applications.
\nAcquire required in the knowledge and practical skills in wood cutting, joining and other allied operations.
\nAcquire required in the trade knowledge and practical skills in engineering measurements.
\nAcquire experience in preventive and corrective maintenance of various cutting tools, machine tools and equipment.
\nFinish various jobs within specified time and resource limits, with proper measurements and evaluate them by appropriate methods and tools.<\/p>\n

Job Opportunities<\/h4>\n

The pass-outs of this programme have ample scope for self employment as there is sufficient market demand for skilled carpenters in both urban and rural areas. They can also get wage employment with furniture makers.<\/p>\n

Theory – 40%, Practical – 60%<\/p>\n

Entry Qualification<\/h4>\n

Class 8th Pass\n<\/p>\n

Scheme Of Examination<\/h4>\n

Maximum Weightage in Theory – 30%, Time 2 hours<\/p>\n

Maximum Weightage in Practical – 70%, Time 3 hours<\/p>\n

Passing Marks – 33% in aggrigate in Public Examination Secondary level or Grade ‘E’ as in independent vocational course or Grade ‘G’ when combined with academic stream.<\/p>\n

Unit 1: Introduction to Carpentry:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Need for the Work, Training, Relationship between timber, Tools and Carpentry.<\/p>\n

Unit 2: Timber:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Origin Structure of Timber, Types of wood conversion of timber, Types of sawing, Timber sections, Defects in wood: Seasoning of timber, Preservation, Types of preservatives, Other types of timber.<\/p>\n

Unit 3 : Carpentry Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n

Classification of Tools, Measuring and Marking, Holding, Cutting, Grooving, Planing, Striking, Boring and Miscllaneous Tools, Care and maintenance of Tools, Precautions to be taken while using carpentry tools, Sharpening tools, Wood working machines, Wood working lathe, Wood sawing machine, etc.<\/p>\n

Unit 4: Basic Drawing and Calculations:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Drawing<\/strong>
Instruments for drawing, Preliminary practice, Different methods, Orthographic drawing, Isometric drawing, Oblique drawing, Perspective drawing, Freehand drawing or sketching.<\/p>\n

Calculations<\/strong>
Need, Units of measurement, How to measure and calculate, Examples on Calculations.<\/p>\n

Types of Work and Working Procedure: <\/h4>\n

Marking, Sawing, Planing, Chiselling, Boring, Striking, Checking, Sharpening.<\/p>\n
